Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up (surely you will be accepted)? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.”
(ECHO) But… you must master it…
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts…
Even a taste of one of THOSE DAYS is enough to dive-bomb my joy and rob me of the fullness Jesus said is mine! And they happen – far too often. How do I react? Usually by getting sucked down with the circumstances.
The good days can be SO AWESOME – – when things go right and life is running smoothly, it’s so easy to remember that fullness of joy and embrace it. “Living in the overflow” is easy when “life is good”! There are days though, when people say and do things that have a huge tendency to take me down…
As I read these two verses that come from the very early stages of humanity, the Lord captures the essence of dealing with life very well. When life throws me lemons and I choose to suck on them, God asks me (as He asked Cain), do you have reason to be angry? REALLY? I don’t think so! And I’m reminded in His Word that… this IS the day the Lord has made… we WILL rejoice and be glad in it!! Psalm 118:24
These two verses from Genesis tell us there IS a better way to cope with the stuff life flings. And we need to cope in the better way. God speaks truth as He speaks here.
When we allow emotions to run rampant and we find ourselves in a reactionary mode, rebellion against God is waiting to be embraced. If we don’t stop and check our emotions when things don’t “go well”, we can sucked into a realm that God doesn’t intend for His children. It’s not of Him.
It a realm of self…
and THAT’s not of God. Life’s not supposed to be about ourselves, and too often it IS. Sin’s desire IS for us, but we must claim our rightful inheritance as God’s child and master the sin that’s WAITING TO EAT US ALIVE. Don’t let it usurp God’s throne in life as Lord and lock its vicious hold. Do not let it reign. IT WANTS TO SOOOOO BADLY!! Master it – with the truth of God’s Word and through claiming God’s promises for YOU – for ME – for ALL of His children. LIFE is meant to be LIVED.
We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ…
(2 Corinthians 10:5)
Take those thoughts CAPTIVE when they pop up.
Recognize evil for what it is, grab it, and capture it. Handcuff it. Beat it. DESTROY IT.
God’s Word tells us in Isaiah 2:11—
The proud look of man will be abased
And the loftiness of man will be humbled,
And the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.
Yes – that’s what it all boils down do. The proud look of man.
P*R*I*D*E. Notice the center letter. I I I I I !!!! Pride is centered on me – and we get angry, bitter, entrenched in negativity far too easily. The Lord questioned Cain about his pride and stated His case to Cain:
When things are going well, life is acceptable. You’re fine. No issues.
When things are not going well, sin is waiting to fulfill its desire…
Romans 16:19-20 says (click on the link & enjoy one of my favorite tunes!)—
For the report of your obedience has reached to all; therefore I am rejoicing over you, but I want you to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil.
The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
Crush Satan when he opens himself to you. Don’t embrace his influence at ALL in any way. Trust God’s grace to carry you through whatever is happening around you, and smile. God is good. Trust Him. You are accepted by Him, as you are, by His grace, through faith.
