For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption… in the Lord.
~ 1 Corinthians 1:26-30 ESV
How humbling it is, especially during this Christmas season as we consider the story of the the birth of our Savior, to consider the lowly and humble start of Jesus’ human existence on this earth: “lying in a manger.” His first bed… an animal’s feeding trough inside a cave. That first night was the start of a life spent humbly proclaiming the Almighty power of His heavenly Father.
God’s call was on His Son. He was… the chosen.
This was God’s plan; His Son was our example to follow.
His calling is our calling. We are… the chosen.
We are chosen to show His glory, not ours. We are chosen to reflect His image, not our own. We are chosen to do His will, not ours. God chose us to boast in Him because without Him, we are nothing. He chose us to show the world Who He is through our example, as we follow His.
Because the world needs to see Him through us.
And if not through you… than who?
