For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Two distinct words – Two distinct meanings.
If is in question. When is an answer.
How many times do we look up and say, “If…!” and, in the same breath we ask, “When?” How many times do we put together the plan of action for the moment that sounds best to us and lay it out to God as though we have the optimal answer, we have the best means to the best end, and it’s up to us?
It’s not. No if’s, and’s or but’s here. We don’t have control of the When.
How many times do we look back and see God in the journey in ways that were obviously God? How many times do we acknowledge the God in our story because it really is not our story, but the fulfillment of His plan and purpose for our story, which is really part of His story.
History. His story.
When we put our hope and trust in Him our story is His, not ours. No if’s, and’s or but’s here. We don’t have the control of the When.
So God’s Word is clear about the If and the When. The answer? “Faint not” or literally, “be relaxed.” Chill. This term is stronger and more focused than “be not weary.” “Weary of well-doing” refers to the will; “faint not” to relaxation of the power over that will. No one should faint, as in an earthly harvest sometimes happens. This is heavenly purpose. So let it go. Don’t think about the If or the When. God is in control of it all, and His processes and purpose is a lot bigger than we can imagine.
Hope – trust – relax.
Live with integrity and transparency. Follow in Jesus’ footsteps. Smile and nod at life around you. God is in control. Not If . When. Always.
